I have waxed poetically about the NRA in various posts, both here and on Face Book. Quite often I have lamented the fact that the NRA has changed over the years from the benign organization that promoted gun safety and hunting rights to the new not so benign organization that purports to be an advocate of 2nd Amendment Rights. To the detriment of the common sense.
But I have been thinking lately. The NRA is no longer an organization. Even though it still garner members, even though it still teaching gun safety, and even though it still promotes hunting it is not truly an organization. It masquerades as one, after all that is one of its major revenue sources and one of its major “face” of the organization.
But in reality, it is a Political Action Committee (PAC) / Gun Lobby and has been so for quite a number of years. If you do not believe me:
- Look at where the non-membership money is coming from.
- Look at where the non-membership money is being spent.
It is obvious that it is funneling money promoting gun manufacturing interests. Hell, the real head of the organization was a major gun lobbyist before he came over to the NRA. This is a change without a difference.
Even it the current accusation about the NRA funneling $30 Million from the Russians turns out to be untrue (yeah, right!) it does not abrogate the facts of the matter.
The NRA is nothing more than a PAC/Gun Lobby that is pretending to be an organization. The saddest fact is that its members are ignorant to that fact.
